The National Laboratory for Feedingstuffs in Lublin is a division of the National Research Institute of Animal Production in Kraków. Tasks of the National Laboratory for Feedingstuffs include conducting research related to production and application of industrial feedingstuffs, monitoring of feed composition and its quality, development and standardisation of methods for feed examination in terms of nutrients, active substances of feed additives, non-target substances of vegetable origin and antinutritional substances. The National Laboratory for Feedingstuffs carries our research on feedingstuffs for the purposes of feed inspection and external organisations in the field of basic nutrients, starch, sugars, amino acids, fatty acids, macroelements, microelements, undesirable and harmful components of vegetable origin, undesirable elements and compounds. As for research services, the National Laboratory for Feedingstuffs conducts research on active substances of feed additive and proteinous feed materials and their measurement in premixes and mixed feeds (confirmation of identity). It also undertakes research on the parameters of feed processing procedures. Moreover, as a reference laboratory, the National Laboratory for Feedingstuffs carries out comparative research on standard methods for feed analysis and reference research for the purposes of feed inspection.
The National Laboratory for Feedingstuffs comprises two laboratories - in Lublin and in Szczecin.
The National Laboratory for Feedingstuffs has highly-qualified employees and its laboratories are supplied with innovative apparatus and equipment. The output of employees of the National Laboratory for Feedingstuffs is disseminated in the form of publications, methodological instructions, reports from interlaboratory comparison proficiency testing.
The National Laboratory for Feedingstuffs publishes the journal Pasze Przemysłowe [Industrial Feedingstuffs], which comprises popular science papers. The Pasze Przemysłowe journals are sent to domestic feed producers and veterinary inspectors, as well as to scientific units.
The National Laboratory for Feedingstuffs conducts activities in the field of standardisation, information, training and conferences for the purposes of feed inspection, feed producers and users.
Publishing activities
Publishing of the journal "Pasze Przemysłowe" [Industrial Feeds/Feedingstuffs]
Pasze Przemysłowe has been published since 1993. It includes data and information on current problems crucial to the production, trade and application of feedingstuffs. Information is passed on in the form of science and review articles based on research results carried out by internal and external scientific and research units, as well as on current data from publications from all around the world. Moreover, information about national and EU law (regulations, directives) concerning the problems of the agricultural and feed industry is also published in Pasze Przemysłowe, which also presents information on standardisation related to the feed industry. Currently, issues of Pasze Przemysłowe are published by the National Research Institute of Animal Production in Kraków and the National Laboratory for Feedingstuffs in Lublin as well as by the Polish Union of Feed Producers.
The range of topics in the published articles encompasses issues related to the technology of feed processing, the analytical evaluation of feedingstuffs and the methods of laboratory analyses adapted to feed characteristics. We also feature the biological evaluation of feed materials and feed additives and the balancing of composition of mixed feeds for specific species of production animals as well as information concerning current legal regulations related to the production, trade and application of feedingstuffs.
